Settling in tips:Settling into Kindergarten can be an emotional process for all included. Our teachers are trained to deal with these situations but here are some more tips for you to make the process easier.
Talk with your child about attending Kindergarten and what will happen. Visit the Kindergarten with your child so that it becomes a familiar place for them. Encourage your child to put their bag and lunchbox away. Talk to your child about the teachers and the facilities e.g toilets etc. Explore the Kindergarten together pointing out new and familiar things. As they become more confident you can slowly move away. Encourage your child to ask for help from the teachers and make sure he or she knows their names. Always tell your child that you are leaving but you will be back after work or shopping etc Keep to the agreed time. Gradually extend the length of your child's time at kindergarten without you. When you leave stick to the plan and try not to get upset by your child's tears. Explain simply where you are going and when you will be back. Ask for support from the teachers and they will work with you and you will find that you will foster your child's independence until one day he/she us truly comfortable staying at kindergarten alone. Praise your child for his/her growing independence. Remember it does take some children time to settle into Kindergarten and you are always welcome to ring at any time to check on them. |
