It might look like your child is just playing but all the activities provided for the children give them the opportunity to discover, explore and learn. Your child will learn at his/her own pace and your child will be exposed to a wide variety of stimulating resources and activities to encourage them to get involved and learn with and alongside their friends. Preparation for next step Kindergarten provides the foundation for your child's next step into formal learning at school by developing skills and knowledge in reading, writing, language, maths and science just to name a few. At kindergarten we focus a lot on learning habits that allow children to develop skills that prepare your child for becoming responsible for their own future learning at school and also into adulthood. These include curiosity and courage, perseverance, taking responsibility, being confident to express ideas and feelings and questioning and posing problems just to name a few. These are essential skills to develop confident competent citizens of the future. Learning Profile Remember that your child's individual learning journey is recorded in a profile book at kindergarten and this will include what the teachers have been working on with your child and is a diary of your child's achievements. You and your child are welcome to add to their profile books as this strengthens the link between kindergarten and home and allows each party to be informed of important events and achievements for your child. It is also a great way of introducing the importance of books with your child and they will learn that printed words tell a story - actually their story! It is a great way for you and your child to revisit what they have experienced and add your own comments. This belongs to your child to take with them when they move onto school.
